T3 (Time To Trigger) Universal Trigger Engine



SoniqWare releases T3 (Time To Trigger), a stereo MIDI trigger engine that listen to incoming audio, detects new events, and sends MIDI notes with appropriate dynamics and pan to control a drum sampler or any other synthesizer, all this live. To be used for drum replacement or synthesizer control through audio, in combination with any plug-in or external synthesizer.

Freeze: freezes the display. Main menu: opens up the main menu which shows links to web site, user guide, about box, and software activation dialog box. Main dual display: lower display shows input signal loudness together with detector loudness threshold as a green line. Upper display shows internal detection signal together with detector sensitivity threshold as a green line. Vu-Meter: input audio signal Vu-Meter. High-pass filter: turns filter on to reduce impact of low frequencies on triggering. Low-pass filter: turns filter on to reduce impact of high frequencies on triggering. High-pass cutoff: adjusts cutoff frequency of filter. Low-pass cutoff: adjusts cutoff frequency of filter. Detector threshold: adjusts loudness threshold above which triggering will start. Detector sensitivity: adjusts internal detector sensitivity, lower values will cause detector to trigger more often. Detector guard: adjusts minimum time between two detections to avoid double triggering. Detector mode: selects between percussive and sustained modes. Percussive mode sends midi note off a short time after triggering a note on. Sustained mode sends midi note off when audio loudness gets below the detector threshold, or when a new event is triggered. Dynamics manual: when on, midi velocity will be set manually using velocity knob. Dynamics manual velocity: adjusts midi velocity when manual mode is on. Dynamics smooth cutoff: adjusts cutoff of low-pass smoothing filter. Lower values will cause the midi velocity to vary less. Dynamics curve exponential: adjusts the shape of the loudness to midi velocity mapping curve from linear to exponential. Dynamics track: when on, midi expression will be extracted from signal loundness to allow expressive loundess changes to be transcribed into proper midi messages. This will only work when detector is set to sustained mode. Dynamics curve: adjusts the loudness to midi velocity mapping curve. Pan manual: when on, midi pan will be set manually using pan knob. Pan manual pan: adjusts midi pan when manual mode is on. Pan smooth cutoff: adjusts cutoff of low-pass smoothing filter. Lower values will cause the midi pan to vary less. Pan track: when on, midi pan will be extracted from signal left-right location to allow expressive pan changes to be transcribed into proper midi messages. This will only work if detector is set to sustained mode. Midi channel: selects the channel to which midi events will be sent. Midi note: selects the note that will be triggered. Midi program: sends a midi program change message. Midi On: when turned off, plugin sends a all notes off message and then mutes midi output. Input Gain L: adjusts gain on the left channel of stereo input. Input Gain R: adjusts gain on the right channel of stereo input. Output Volume: adjusts midi main volume. Programs: allows to change and select stored programs (plugin settings). Load: loads a program or a bank of programs that has been saved to disk. Save: saves a program or a bank of programs to disk. Copy: copies the current plugin settings to the pasteboard. Paste: pastes the plugin settings from the pasteboard to the current program.

Hand Drum

A lot of ghost hits from a very expressive performance, may require some HP filtering for more accurate triggering (500 Hz). Here, original sound mixed with Udu hand percussion triggered using T3.
Drum Loop

Drum mixes are a piece of cake too. Here, original sound mixed with analog drum synth sounds triggered using T3. Note: this required shifting midi notes up and down to trigger the proper sounds, after detection by T3.
Drum Roll 2

Snare drum rolls with fast hits and a lot of resonance. Replace by other snare drum sound triggered using T3.
Woodblock 1

Having some some fun with a frog woodblock percussion. Sound replaced by Gourd hand percussion triggered using T3.
Woodblock 2

Frog woodblock again, this time generating rolls. Original sound mixed with kick drum sound triggered using T3 to add energy at the bottom.
High-Hat

Expressive hi-hat roll. Original sound mixed with ride cymbal sound from drum synth triggered using T3.
Tabla

Control a synth with a percussive instrument, f.i. an indian tabla in this example. Original sound here mixed with Udu hand drum triggered using T3.



T3 Multiple controls of the detection engine: High-pass and low-pass filters, detection sensitivity and threshold, guard time, percussive and sustained modes.


T3 Velocity control curve: Linear and non-linear curve with continuous adjustment to map from input signal loudness to MIDI velocity.


T3 Continuous live tracking of loundness and stereo pan: Low-pass filter to avoid spurious loudness and pan jitter, manual mode to generate fixed MIDI velocity and/or MIDI stereo pan values.
