picoSeries Maximally Simple Plugins

SoniqWare releases picoSeries, a range of plugins designed for maximal simplicity of use while embedding the advanced SoniqWare sound processing algorithms: picoQuiet (noise reduction), picoEdge (attack transient processing), picoTail (release transient processing).

Main menu: opens up the main menu which shows links to web site, user guide, about box, and software activation dialog box. Vu-Meter: input, noise and output audio signal Vu-Meter (dB RMS). Bypass: just bypasses the noise reduction. Noise level: this is the main control. It adjusts the noise level to the desired target level, in dB. If set too low, noise will leak through. If set too high, some signal will be filtered out. When set close to the actual noise level, picoQuiet tracks the noise shape continuously, so that both noise level and noise profile contribute to efficient noise reduction. Frequency color: usually not required, but if needed, allows finer grained control of the resulting sound according to its frequency content. If the useful signal does not contain much high-frequencies, try turning the knob gently towards the Lo. If it does not contains much low-frequencies, go for the opposite. Reduction amount: usually not required, but if needed, allows to adjust the amount of noise reduction. If the noise level is already quite low, or if the noise reduction creates audible artifacts in the output signal, try reducing its value. Go for the opposite for stronger (but in some case less transparent) noire reduction. Attack time: usually not required, but if needed, allows finer grained control of the resulting sound according to its temporal attack characteristics. If the useful signal is rather percussive, try turning the knob gently towards the left for better results. If it does not contain such strong attacks, go for the opposite.
Noise Reduction

Main menu: opens up the main menu which shows links to web site, user guide, about box, and software activation dialog box. Vu-Meter: input and output audio signal Vu-Meter. Bypass: just bypasses the processing. Attack gain: this is the main control. It adjusts the gain applied to the attack portions of the content, in dB. Frequency color: usually not required, but if needed, allows finer grained control of the resulting sound frequency content. Turning the knob towards Lo will emphasize the low-frequency content during attacks. Go for the opposite if you rather want to emphasize the high-frequency content. Attack length: usually not required, but if needed, allows finer grained control by adjusting the duration of the attack. Detection sensitivity: usually not required, but if needed, allows finer grained control of the attack detection sensitivity. Turn it towards Lo to avoid affecting weaker attacks, turn it towards high to make sure all subtle attacks are also detected and processed. Make-up gain: applied to the output signal. It allows to compensate for changes in signal level caused by processing.
Attack Transient Processing

Main menu: opens up the main menu which shows links to web site, user guide, about box, and software activation dialog box. Vu-Meter: input and output audio signal Vu-Meter. Bypass: just bypasses the processing. Release gain: this is the main control. It adjusts the gain applied to the decay-sustain-release portions of the content, in dB. When set to positive values, it can emphasize portions following attacks, as well as dry ambiences and reverb tails. When set to negative values, it decreases the release part of the sound, the ambience and the reverb tails. Frequency color: usually not required, but if needed, allows finer grained control of the resulting sound frequency content. Turning the knob towards Lo will emphasize the low-frequency content during portions following attacks. Go for the opposite if you rather want to emphasize the high-frequency content. Release length: usually not required, but if needed, allows finer grained control by adjusting the duration of the release.
